The garden they have in their backyard was a blessing to the author and his family that gave them food and helped them financially. But for him, he got the most important benefit that he never thought there was such thing. Their 'gulayan' serves as the classroom or the teacher that gave him the knowledge and learning about the connection between human and nature through his everyday experience while taking care of it. Just like going to school everyday, we tend to learn and discover new things, we get to understand such lessons that were being tackled and shared by our mentor and classmates that we may use in our everyday life.

of human
neglect of the environment.
Nature is our life provider and if we're going to keep neglecting it, negative effects will occur. We can no longer afford to eat fresh, nutritious and safe foods. Illegal logging may result to landslides and air pollution we can no longer have fresh air. Improper waste disposal will bring water and soil pollution. There will be existence of diseases and a newly discovered disease may pop up that may be hard to cure. We may also experience natural disasters that keeps getting stronger and due to poverty there is a greater difficulty of recovering from such disasters.

It may help you financially because the garden will serve as a source of nutritious and fresh foods that you don't have to go to the market always to buy fruits and vegetables. You can also turn it into your own business as you can sell the fruits and veggies you have. Having a garden in the city will give you fresh air to breathe on. Also an effective way to relaxation and coping up with stress. Gardening with your family is a great way to bond with each other. If all of us will do urban gardening, chances are that we will be able to fight hunger and poverty.
